Moooi Card Case

Seen on Cool Hunting last week is the Jimi, a plastic card case that is a little unconventional in its function and looks for people who don’t like traditional wallets. The website is kinda overdone too but it was nice to see such an insignificant object get some functional attention. For my part, I bought a similar plastic card case in Amsterdam last April and have been using it happilly ever since.

Originally googling the words Wanders Wonders written inside the case, I found out that the case is part of a collection called moooi designed by Marcel Wanders, a recently popular Dutch product designer, member of the Droog Design group.
The case was designed in 1996 and its internal filing pockets system does a surprisingly good job at giving me easy access to my cards. And even though the design could seem a little gimmicky, I have already converted a few people to its usability and wowed quite a few others. After months of rather intensive use, it shows no signs of wear & tear.
Japanese bills are too tall to fit in it, but this turned out to be an interesting feature: if placed in the middle pocket, the bills are maintained in place when the case is closed and even allow me to pull them out when necessary without opening the case.
You can buy it in Tokyo at the Axis Gallery shop in Roppongi or online at Rakuten.
If you buy it, let me know what you think.
Shown below are 2 pics of my case, with its orange NTT-sponsored BUROGUJIN (bloggerin Japanese) sticker and bills sticking out.
